Can you fly in my City or Town?

While in most towns the answer is “yes”, however every Town, Village, City and State have their own ordnance set in place for or against drones. Then there is local, County regulations/ordnance’s too.

For example : Ridgewood does not have a Drone Ordnance, this simply means we call the local precinct to give a heads up letting them know that there will be a drone in the sky’s. We don’t have to if there is no ordnance but we do – common courtesy goes a long way.

Even though Ridgewood does not plan to implement a drone ban,  there will be a process down the road that will require pilots to get a permit through the town inorder to fly.

This isn’t bad, especially since it helps create a safe drone experience for the people of the town. Plus this also creates an environment of responsible licensed pilots.

If you are in Westwood:

Flights can not take place in the of Town of Westwood, however they can on the property being sold and may require the Mayors permission, plus there is a limit to how high you can fly. Westwood has the most conflicting challenging regulations when flying because the FAA controls and regulates the airspace.

So a town can have a no take off and landing policy – however once you’re in the air – you’re in FAA territory.

The trick here would be to get in the air from an approved location most likely it would be another town – which would be far away. Then you’d you’d be in violation with FAA for not keeping the drone in VLOS = Visual Line of Site.

Either way all our flights go through the town approval process first before going into the airspace, which is regulated by the FAA.
